The new social experiment Married
at First Sight has taken America by storm! The premise of this reality show on
the FYI network is to see if a couple can meet for the first time at the altar
and participate in a marriage in a span of Five weeks. If the marriage does not
work out, the couple has the option of divorce! This cleverly designed show
captures the attention span quickly, as one is unable to believe that there are
brave souls out there willing to participate in such an experiment.
The three couples each have their
individual struggles with fear of rejection, compromising, being scared to show
vulnerability, and trying to figure out how to live happily ever after with a
stranger! From the first episode, viewers are rooting for the couple to make it
while sitting back with relief of not being thrown into such a situation.
The most intriguing couple is Monet
and Vaughn. It appears that every time they take two steps forward, a situation
or argument will occur that sets them four steps backwards. Monet possesses
this strong, independent, healthy sense of self persona, while Vaughn is more
reserved, flexible, but very sure of what he wants his wife to possess. The
sexual chemistry between the two is problem free while the emotional intimacy
is riddled with difficulty. Both are filled with passion about their own ideas
or interpretations of marriage rather than creating together what their
marriage should look like. Divorce is always an option in this experiment and
it might be the very thing that is hindering the emotional connection for the
two. The audience is rooting for this
couple to get out of their own way of having a successful marriage!
“Crazy” experiment or not, these
couples all have something in common! They were all willing to take a risk for
love, fidelity, and happily ever after.
